SELF - AWARENESS
lifeway.com |
In the most recent times, the capacity & aspiration to know one’s capabilities is deteriorating and this can be due to pressures to achieve affluence effortlessly and hastily.
Knowing yourself and doing what you are meant to do.
How difficult is it? How important is it?
Is Religion our number one means to finding ourselves? Can it provide strategies?
What about role models? How purposeful are they in the issue of self – awareness? Is replicating role models deceptive or favourable? What exactly is the right way to go?
Self – awareness involves being well-informed about your strengths, weaknesses, limitations, likes, dislikes, potential and so on. Being able to bridge between what you are skilful at doing and what you want to do.
My earlier blog post concerning priorities, discipline & determination comes to play when you know what you can do, should do and need to do. If not, there is nothing to prioritize, be disciplined about and be determined to do.
Now back to self – awareness, many people misween when it comes to knowing what you can do and deciding what you should do. It is normal to find an individual who has many talents or abilities but there may be just one or two that he/she can very well excel at. Due to societal demand, we sometimes go for what we should not.

Long – term success comes quickly and can be sustained easily when we do what we are meant to do, when we utilize our talents. An example can be musicians, actresses/actors, YouTubers, bloggers, politicians, poets, dancers, businessmen/women, corporate workers, TV/radio hosts/presenters who are young and excelling beyond imagination.
With the issue of role models, it is in two parts. People look for role models in their chosen fields whiles others admire people and strive to be like them. In both cases the imitation of the role model can be very misleading as we are all significantly different. For instance, you can have a software developer as a role model but you are meant to be a software engineer/software architect OR You can have an actress as a role model but you are meant to be a pastor.
I personally think it is a mistake when a person completely copies their role model but beneficial when the person allows the role model’s personal success stories and techniques to accomplishment to motivate them and be their guide in establishing their own success story.
With respect to religion, it is a controversial issue. I mean we all do have our opinions but this is my take. Let me use this example, when you buy an equipment or appliance, the manufacturer stipulates how to effectively and efficiently use the item but when you do as you wish with it, you either destroy it or underutilize it. So where am I heading with this? Our talents or skills were given to us (depending on your religion we will have different beliefs as to whom) so shouldn’t it be appropriate to consult on what we are meant to? And even how to do it?

Another suggestion is open-mindedness, that is, considering other things. It may be that the way you are meant to impact change in this world is not in your plans now. At the same time, the fact that you like singing might not necessarily mean you have to be a musician. The key is not only discovering what you can do but what you can start & finish as well as what you can to a full extent thrive at.
Being self – aware is relevant in every area of our lives but many people disregard it and maybe that is why you cannot accomplish what you set your mind to or why what you invest resources in never flourishes. I believe it explains why an individual with a finance degree will be making waves in the marketing sector and also why an illiterate will be overseeing a group of companies as the founder. It comes easy to some people but not others. We just have to be patient and focused in finding our true selves.
Unfortunately, I do not have any solution as I am still trying to settle on my strong capabilities and keep wondering on the easiest and best way to go. I might do a part 2 of this when I find a solution. Any suggestion, constructive criticism, or opinion is welcome.
