LEADERSHIP

Many people think too far and beyond when it comes to leadership when it is actually a pretty simple concept.

It has become a norm to hear people refer to politicians, business men & women, advocates & public speakers, influencers and the like as leaders but what about the very normal people? Are we leaders?

The control one has over his/her life, the management of one’s activities, the daily decisions one makes concerning school, work, relationships, and so on makes him/her a leader.

You see, the thing is, we can all be famous but we will not all be famous. You do not have to be a member of any of the previously mentioned groups of people before you can term yourself as a leader. You do not need to be extremely rich, popular, physically askew to current societal standards or be in a profession that is dominating at a point in time in society and you definitely do not need to be at a certain age either for you to be a front - runner.

Leadership is free and instilled in each and every one of us. Although ‘free’, you have to work hard in the sense that a lazy, unwilling to sacrifice to achieve individual has little to no control over issues involving him/her and therefore can hardly be referred to as a leader. The common qualities of a leader are very practical and should be habitual for their effect to be felt.

It is distinctive though that when leaders are sought after to speak or/and host events, the organisers are actually looking for highly popular and influential individuals. That is another issue related to leadership; influence.

My level of success, no matter how small, should be swayful to another. Fortunately, in this world, we are all always seeking for greater achievements than we are currently making which is good since growth is the consistency of life so obviously if you are making waves in your small town then you are capable of modifying people’s perception and judgment.

The fact that someone was able to go to school for over sixteen years and complete on a good note should make him/her prominent; should be a source of inspiration to the younger ones.

The fact that someone was able to make decisions such as when & where to look for a job or to further his/her studies after school should make the person a leader, being a single parent and minor decisions such as getting up early to be productive as well.

Unfortunately, a person like that is perceived as normal or even mediocre in some cases. People fail to realize how tough and demanding life is that a little growth or positive movement or achievement should be appreciated and encouraged.

Well, it is true with no doubt that some people are meant to stand out whiles others are to be in the background but then let us value the efforts that individuals are making in hopes of becoming successful no matter how minute but never irrelevant.

The leadership skills and attributes of influential people (hardworking, smart, full of positivity, trustworthy, creative, responsible, good communicator, strategist, visionary, go - getter, goal setter, delegator, competent, change seeker, focused, persistent, ideas hub, motivator, team worker, planner, productive, value oriented, ambitious, deep thinker, courageous, etc.) must not be exhibited on a grand scale before it is recognised. It will be near impossible for the entire world to notice every single person and what they are in to so it is up to those around them to make them know that what they are doing is worth it and esteemed as well as encourage and motivate them to do better; to develop.

Someone might not see the relevance of tagging someone as a leader or influential person but sometimes it is the only motivation that an individual might need to push harder and excel. Also, looking down on people is a huge form of discouragement and desire for compliments & acknowledgement is second nature to humans. On a larger scale, we as individuals have to internally identify ourselves as such to make us capable of portraying it externally. Aside ensuring you do what you have to, you have to be what you want. Manifest your thoughts into actions because as unfortunate as it may be, minds cannot be read.

  1. I really feel inspired reading this post. One doesn't need a grand scale but sometimes it's hard to feel like a leader when you're the only one witnessing so I think this post can help people to believe in themselves and not needing validation from others. Great post!
